G-d's name...

Image
This video clip inspired me to write this reflection: One of my favorite classes at my divinity school was doctrine of G-d.  It was a more philosophical approach to G-d but still based on some Biblical doctrines.  Why philosophy? Philosophy by its definition of the word is the love of knowledge.  It helps us to ask all kinds of questions and take a topic of discussion in all kinds of different direction.  Philosophy should never limit us in pursue of better understanding of the examine topic.  Some people in the Church think that the Bible should guide the philosophical pursue of the knowledge of God, however, that is not what I go for.  Yes, the Bible should be one of the sources that we use to help us to understand how people have related and understood G-d in the past but it should not limit the way how we approach this question.  Also, the philosophy should not neglect the Bible.  It should take it in consideration as one of the sources that are very important for a goo

Mammals and evolution

Image
Mammals I have never taken biology in English.  However, I have been very much interested in this subject of science.  I am interested in the animals that are very similar to the humans in their way of behavior, thinking and eating. One time I was asked if I believe in evolution.  My answer was positive.  I think Charles Darwin’s theory is correct.  I have no problem believing and accepting that at some point all the Mammals and I had similar or this same species that we can call our ancestor.  Because of that I was called an atheist and a person because of whom people would leave the faith and the Church but… I can only quote one of my heroes: “this is where I stand and I can do no other. (M. Luther)”   Like with many things, sometimes we just have to make a choice. Some theories for some people are easy to accept and some are not and this is true for everybody.

Appalachia - Mt. Sinai

Image
This Spring break I spent in Appalachia, Kentucky.  This was the best week of the 2015 Lent.  I loved the region. The mountains, the sky, the starts and the nature helped me to connect with the Almighty.  The people of the area were very nice.  They don’t have much but the know how to enjoy what they have.  They are very much family oriented. They use their porches to sit and to converse with people and to look at the world.   Appalachia is perhaps one of the poorest places in the United States.  However, it is wealthy with a beautiful places, people, conversations and music.  I think my heart was changed in Appalachia.  I don’t feel this same way as I did before going there.  I still have to find out what is that change in me.  For me, Appalachia became Mt. Sinai.  So what did I do there? I worked on one of the mobile homes. I was a construction worker together with other students and adults.  I lived at the Christian Appalachia Project camp.  I shared bedroom, dinin

Diversity and/or inclusion

Both words are kind of describing this same thing.  These words stress different aspects of discussion.  So what do they describe? They describe that there is no such a thing like one but many.  They describe the variety, range of things, and equality of state of being s/things. The difference between them is that one emphasizes distinctions and the other equality between the differences.  In some way both are necessary to have a discussion and yet one will help us to come closer to each other with our differences and the other will create the distinctions among us and disunity.
